There is sadness but a lot of love and beauty too. The story as a whole is wonderful, yet heartbreaking. Penelope must make a decision about the paintings from her father that she owns, as her squabbling offspring pile on the pressure for something they believe, by rights, is theirs. One of them truly appreciates what Penelope gave them as children and that they should expect nothing more. Penelope Keeling is an artists daughter, with three grown children, each one very different.

If I hadn’t read The Shell Seekers I think my life would be different. Then having to do tedious jobs, like black out curtains, attempting to feed a family on what seemed like nothing, keep growing children clothed. But there were many other hardships at home First and foremost, the bombings, the loss of life, the worry about loved ones. The Second World War, wasn’t just about what happened in the front lines. This book taught me a lot of life lessons and a lot about history too. It makes me love Springtime and Cornwall. Why? Because it makes me appreciate everything and everyone I have. If asked to choose one single book to be stuck with forever, it would most likely be this one. Something about The Shell Seekers makes is one of the most important books I’ve ever read. I like each one for a different reason and some rank higher than others. The list includes all sorts of authors and genres. Like many bookworms, I have a long list of books that could fall into the category of favourite. Asking someone if they have a favourite book, is a little like asking someone if they have a favourite child.
